The two-day sudhikriyas (purification rites), as part of the
auspicious occasion of Makaravilakku ceremony, will be held at the
Sreekovil of Lord Ayyappa temple on January 12 and 13.
To begin with ‘Prasadhasudhakriyas’, which include ‘rasagna homam’, ‘rakshakalasam’, ‘vasthu homam’ and ‘vasthubali’ will be held under the leadership of Thantri Kandararu Rajivaru after the ‘deeparadhana’ at the temple at 7 p.m. on January 12.
In the concluding session of the purification ceremony, ‘Bimbasudhikriyas’, which include ‘chathusudhi’, ‘dhara’, ‘panchakam’ and ‘panchagavyam’, will be held during ‘uchcha pooja’ on January 13.
Makarasamkrama Pooja on January 14
‘Makarasamkrama pooja’, one of the auspicious occasions of the Sun changing from ‘Dhanu raasi’ to ‘Makaram raasi’, will be held at 6.56 a.m. on January 14.
In connection with the ‘Makarasamkrama pooja’, Thantri Rajivaru will perform ‘abhishekam’ on the idol of Lord Ayyappa with the ghee brought from Kowdiar palace. After the ‘abhishekam’ the ghee will be distributed as ‘prasadam’ to the pilgrims who gather in front of the Sreekovil of the temple.
Deeparadhana
Thantri Rajivaru, as part of Makaravilakku, will conduct ‘deeparadhana’ after adorning the Thiruvabharanam, the attire in gold, on the idol of Lord Ayyappa at 6.40 p.m.
To mark the occasion of makaravilakku, Makarajyothi will be visible on the sky above north-east sky above the temple. Thousands witness this moment every year.
