Lakhs of pilgrims witness ‘Makarajyothi’ at Sabarimala
In an atmosphere charged with religious fervour and gaiety, lakhs of
pilgrims witnessed ‘Makarajyothi’, the Sirius star, that appeared on the
North-Eastern horizon of the Lord Ayyappa Temple in Sabarimala, on
Monday.
The pilgrims, who thronged Sannidhanam and adjacent places for the last few days for the Makarajyothi darshan, witnessed the star when deeparadhana was being offered by Thantri Kandararu Rajivaru in the presence of Melsanthi Damodaran Potti after adorning the Thiruvabharanam on the idol of Lord Ayyappa, at 6.45 pm.
Rendering the air with the chant ‘Swamiye Saranamaiyyappa’, the pilgrims, with folded hands, looked towards the sky to receive the blessings of Lord Ayyappa.
Earlier, the Thiruvabharanam procession was accorded a traditional reception on its arrival at Saramkuthi at 5 pm. A 20-member team, led by Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer K S Sankaranarayana Pillai, received the procession and led the Thiruvabharanam team to Sopanam.
At Sopanam, the Thiruvabharanam procession was received by TDB president M P Govindan Nair, Sabarimala chief commissioner K Jayakumar, TDB member Subhash Vasu, special commissioner K Babu and devaswom commissioner N Vasu.
Thantri Kandararu Rajivaru and Melsanthi Damodaran Potti received the Thiruvabharanam in front of the Sreekovil and adorned it on the idol of Lord Ayyappa.
Union Minister of State for Labour Kodikunnil Suresh, Health and Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar, Travancore Devaswom Board president M P Govindan Nair, Sabarimala Chief Commissioner K Jayakumar and member Subhash Vasu, special commissioner K Babu, Devaswom commissioner N Vasu, Sabarimala executive officer K S Sankaranarayana Pillai and administrative officer Gopalakrishna Pillai were among those who were present in front of the Sreekovil to offer prayers during deeparadhana.
