Sabarimala getting ready for Makaravilakku

Sabarimala makaravilakku 2012

SABARIMALAI:  The devotees have to wait till January 2025 for the conduct of Padi pooja, one of the important rituals, at Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple.
Though the amount for the conduct of the Padi pooja was raised recently by the Travancore Devaswom Board to Rs 40,000 from Rs 30,000, the booking by the devotees is on the increase, Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer M Satheeshkumar said.Since Padi pooja could not be held during the Mandalam-Makaravilaku seasons,  the devotees could not offer the special pooja for the two months, Satheeshkumar said.

Udayasthamana pooja
Satheeshkumar said that the booking by the devotees for Udayasthamana pooja at Lord Ayyappa temple  was complete till 2017.Hence, the devotees would be forced to wait for the conduct of Udayasthamana pooja during the monthly pooja for the Malayalam month of Kumbham, which falls in February, 2018, he said. The increase in the tariff for the ritual from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 has  not made any impact on the bookings, Satheeshkumar  said.Ayyappa  Chakram saleSatheeshkumar said the inquiries for the 4-gm gold coins having the emblem of Lord Ayyappa was good. The sale of the gold coin of 916 purity on the first day of the launch was overwhelming, he said.

Sabarimala devaswom board earn record revenue

Sabarimala ayyappa swamy

SABARIMALAI: The Lord is helping the Travancore Devaswom Board earn record revenue from the Sabarimala pilgrimage.

The aggregate revenue collection of the Lord Ayyappa temple at the end of the first three weeks of the eight-week pilgrimage period stood at `55.14 crore as against `41.5 crore during the corresponding period in the pilgrimage season last year.

Of the total income, the sale proceeds from aravana prasadam came to `24. 12 crore in contrast to `16.94 crore during the same period in the previous season.

The hundi collection stood at `18.76 crore as against `15.30 crore in the corresponding period in the last season.

The income from the sale of appam prasadam stood at `5.26 crore against `3.92 crore last time.

Pilgrim arrivals rise: Sabarimala executive officer M Satheeshkumar said that the record rise in revenue was mainly on account of the ten per cent increase in the arrival of pilgrims. They get more time to deposit their money in hundi boxes kept on the temple premises following the increase in the darsan time, he said.

Availability of abundant quantity of aravana and appam prasadam has helped increase the revenue earnings, he said.

A ten per cent increase in the prices of aravana and appam prasadams also contributed to the revenue increase.
