Sabarimala Temple to be Opened Today for Makaravilakku Season


The hill abode of Lord Ayyappa will reopen on Monday evening for the concluding phase of the 20-day long Makaravilakku pilgrimage season.
Melsanthi P N Narayanan Namboothiri will open the Sreekovil of the temple at 5.30 pm in the presence of Thantri Kandararu Maheswararu. As a practice, no ritual will be conducted in the evening.
Petta Thullal
The customary Erumeli Petta Thullal, marking Lord Ayyappa’s victory over demon Mahishi, will be held at Erumeli Sree Dharma Sastha temple on January 11.
Petta Thullal offerings by Ambalappuzha and Alangattu teams will be held. The Ambalppuzha team, led by Periyor Chandrasekharan Nair, will take out the Petta Thullal from Erumeli Petta Sree Dharma Sastha temple to Erumely Sree Dharma Sastha temple at 12 noon after witnessing the ‘Krishnaparunthu’ over the temple.
The Ambalappuzha team will be accorded a traditional reception by Travancore Devaswom Board president M P Govindan Nair, members Subhash Vasu and P K Kumaran and Devaswom commissioner P Venugopal at 2 pm. After circumambulating the Nalambalam of the temple, the Petta Thullal will conclude at 2.30 pm.
The petta Thullal by Alangattu team, led by Vijayakumar, will begin after seeing the star above the Erumeli Kochambalam at 3 pm.
Thiruvabharanam Procession
The three-day procession carrying the Thiruvabharanam, the attire in gold to be adorned on the idol of Lord Ayyappa during Makaravilakku on January 14, will be taken out from Pandalam Valiyakoickal Sree Dharma Sastha temple at 1 pm on January 12.
The procession will be accorded receptions at Kulanada Devi temple and Ullannur Sree Durga Devi temple where the Thiruvabharanam boxes will be opened for darshan.
The procession will halt at Ayroor Puthiyakavu Devi temple for the night.
Leaving the next morning at 4 am, the procession will be accorded receptions at Idappavoor, Vadasserikara Prayar Sree Mahavishu temple, Madamon Sree Rishikesa temple and Perunad Sree Dharma Sastha temple before the second day’s halt.
