Café Kudumbashree outlets opens today to cater to Sabarimala pilgrims
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a bid to serve refreshments to Sabarimala pilgrims,
Kudumabashree adds a new leaf to its model Cafe outlets and opens five
coffee outlets or eateries to serve hygienic traditional cuisine with
coffee. It opens two outlets each at Vadaserikara and Ranni- Perunad and
one at Panthalam to cater to the Sabarimala devotees.
Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan opened the Kudumbashree coffee outlets
at Sabarimala in Pathanamthitta on Wednesday. The Minister also
inaugurated the Plastic Collection Centres as part of the Mission Green
Sabarimala for Plastic-free Sabarimala led by Kudumbashree women,
Kudumbashree officials said. Two plastic collection centres opened
include one each at Laha and Kannamala in Pathanamthitta.
Each coffee outlet at the pilgrim centre in about 32 sq.ft area offers traditional food such as plantain leaf steamed delicacy and steamed cakes along with tea or coffee from the vending machine installed. The cafe coffee outlets with coffee vending machines of Kudumbashree in such pilgrim spots functions with the support of Kudumbashree Neighbourhood women groups or Ayalkootams. At the rate of five women in each of the five coffee outlets, 25 women members of Kudumbashree work at these coffee outlets in shifts.
Further, it plans to open coffee outlets At Nilakkal and Pampa based on the permit from Devaswom Board.. It is also planned to start Kudumbashree street coffee units with women members of scheduled caste community in about a month.
Kudumbashree women have also created cloth bags to replace plastic covers of Sabarimala pilgrims. This year, about 2 lakh cloth bags will be offered by Kudumbashree women as part of the project. The Kudumbashree women will collect the plastic bags from Sabarimala pilgrims and offer free cloth bags to the pilgrims from 9 am to 4 pm, as part of the plastic-free Sabarimala project.
